Periodontal disease is a serious infection of the gum which impacts teeth and even the jawbone. Infections and inflammation of the gums and bone that surround and support the teeth are the main causes of periodontal disease. When gingivitis occurs, which is the beginning of periodontal disease, the gums may swell, get red, and even bleed. Progression of periodontal disease causes loose teeth and can even lead to tooth loss and the deterioration of oral health. Treatment Options:

• Professional Cleaning- The beginning stage of periodontal disease is called gingivitis which is presented by redness and inflammation of the gums. To counteract this stage, a professional cleaning is done to address the growing infection.
• Scaling and Root Planing- One of the many treatments to address periodontal disease at its early stages is to remove plaque and tartar. This is done by your dentist or dental hygienist by going to the bottom of each periodontal pocket to help the root of the teeth reattach to your gums.
• Laser Bacterial Reduction- In LBR treatment, a non abrasive laser is directed into the gingival pockets around the teeth. This lasering effectively reduces bacterial growth by killing bacteria in the area and slowing the progression of gum disease
• Laser Assisted Curettage- This treatment utilizes laser treatment to the gums. The light that is absorbed is converted to heat, which causes the tissues to dissolve. The soft tissue is vaporized when heated which makes the disease easier to remove while preserving the healthy portion of the gum.
• Antimicrobial Therapy- This treatment is the least invasive treatment option as it is not a surgical intervention of periodontal disease. This treatment is facilitated by first scaling and planing and then recommending antimicrobial treatments.
